Personal Growth & Leadership
*Youth Ministry. This is such an easy read- short chapters with clear points. I was also encouraged to see that some of the things we were already doing (like valuing relationships over numbers) were topics in this book.
*7 Practices of Effective Ministry. This book will help you build good, practical foundations in your ministry. It will also guide you through working out your values and culture, and which questions to ask so you know if you are succeeding.
*Jesus is_. A profoundly simple book on the person of Jesus. A refreshing, easy read.
*Culture of Honor. From this book you’ll learn all about honour and what it looks like in a church environment. It includes a section on children which we found really insightful for when it comes to teenagers.
*Boundaries. A practical book to help you determine healthy boundaries in all areas of your life.
*Breaking Busy. Full of practical ideas for making better decisions, valuing the right things (relationships), and breaking out of the constant busy cycle.
Momentum. Learn how to move towards your goals faster without working harder, and take a look at how Jesus did this in his ministry too.
Twinistry. A blog written by identical twins which has a fresh perspective on ministry. So many great ideas and encouragement for anyone in Youth Ministry.
Loving on Purpose. A blog by Danny Silk that covers all things leadership, honour, relationships (teenagers!!!), and ministry.
Recklessly Alive. Sam is a suicide survivor and has some awesomely encouraging posts for talking about and dealing with tough topics like this.
Spiritual Gifts Assessment. We stumbled across this printable version by C3 Church when we were looking for something to use with our leaders. We love this one as it covers a huge range of giftings.
MBTI Assessment. We love this online one for getting a feel for each other’s personalities!
Effective VBS Follow-Up Course. Not just for VBS- learn how to follow-up with families effectively after an event.
Small Groups & Study Series

Bible Gateway. Our go to place to search for scriptures in any translation. They also have a variety of reading plans you can sign up for.

Download Youth Ministry. All sorts of downloadable Youth Min resources, from games to studies, for a reasonable price.
Fervr. A website with all sorts of goodies, from devotionals for teenagers to articles to movies reviews.
*Book Depository. A great alternative to Amazon for buying books! Free worldwide shipping, too.
Postcards. Get a monthly subscription with Devtions Delivered and always have cards on hand to send your students for birthdays, or just a random word of encouragement!
Graphics & Design
PicMonkey. Fantastic tool for photo editing and building collages. A great free alternative to Photoshop.
Canva. Perfect for creating a huge range of graphics, from social media images to ebooks. Includes loads of free templates and design elements.
Unsplash. Free stock photos you can use however you like.
A Color Story. This is a free photo editing app with an emphasis on bright colours. I use it to edit photos from Youth before posting them on social media, as those images tend to be darker and using this app is a quick way to brighten them up.
Piktochart. For creating some pretty amazing infographics!
Over. A handy app for adding text and artwork to a photo or image.
Adobe Color CC. A free online tool for finding and creating colour schemes for your design work.
Video & Film
Wingclips. Search for inspirational movie clips to use as illustrations on different topics.
Vimeo. Find video to use for illustrations for a message. These are often high quality and well made.
YouTube. Another place we go to find ideas for games, see new worship videos, and watch preachers from around the world.
Common Sense Media. Not sure if a film is appropriate to show at Youth? Use Common Sense Media to find out exactly what’s in the film.
Tools & Time-savers
Instagram. See other youth ministries and youth groups in action by searching the tags #youthministry #youthmin #studentministry #stumin and #youthpastor.
Facebook Groups. Great for networking, bouncing ideas off other YPs, asking for advice, and keeping up with the latest great resources and YM trends. Check out this one for Youth Pastors and this one for Girls Min.
Organisation & Productivity
Cozi. We love this app as a shared planner. It is compatible across multiple devices and is designed for busy families (we use the free version and it’s perfect for us).
Spotify. Create music playlists. A great way to organise your tunes for at Youth.
Remind. A free app for sending group texts. Designed for schools but works great for ministry!
Website, Tech & Blogging
*Bluehost. Affordable web hosting.
WordPress.org. Web software to build a website or blog for your Youth Ministry or personal ramblings.
*Mailchimp. Email marketing software.
*By His Grace We Blog. An eBook on building good foundations for blogging as a ministry.
Files & File Sharing
Dropbox. For sharing large files such as photos.
Google Drive. For sharing documents and spreadsheets. Particularly handy for planning events such as Youth Camp!
Smallpdf. An easy to use tool for all things PDF related.
